Overview
Cape Town sits between Table Mountain and the Atlantic, with beaches, the V&A Waterfront and a strong food scene all within a compact area. It suits couples, families, first-time visitors to South Africa and conference delegates at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
It is also the easiest starting point for a longer South Africa trip: the Cape Peninsula and the Winelands are day trips, the Garden Route starts to the east, and Kruger is a short domestic flight away. Kenyan passport holders need no visa for stays of up to 90 days.

Up by cableway or on foot. The cableway closes in high wind, so we leave a spare day for it.

Chapman’s Peak Drive, Cape Point and the African penguins at Boulders Beach, in one long day.
V&A Waterfront and Robben Island
Shops, restaurants and the harbour, and the ferry to Robben Island, booked in advance.
The Winelands
Stellenbosch and Franschhoek are about an hour away, as a day trip or an overnight stay.
Camps Bay and Muizenberg
Atlantic beaches with cold water, and warmer False Bay beaches on the other side of the peninsula.

The Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), with hotels within walking distance.

Dry, warm and long days. Mid-December to mid-January is the busiest and most expensive time.
Mild weather and better value. Spring brings flowers and whale season along the coast.
Cooler and wetter, with lower prices. A good time to pair Cape Town with a Kruger safari.
The south-easterly wind can be strong in summer and closes the cableway on some days.

How many days do I need in Cape Town?
Four or five nights covers Table Mountain, the Peninsula and the Waterfront. Add two nights for the Winelands.
How do I get there from Nairobi?
Kenya Airways flies Nairobi to Cape Town direct on selected days; other routings connect in Johannesburg.
Do I need a visa?
Kenyan passport holders can visit South Africa visa-free for up to 90 days. Other nationalities vary, and your passport needs at least two blank pages. Our visa centre confirms the detail.
When is the best time to visit?
November to March is warm and dry. June to August is cooler and wetter but cheaper.
Can I combine Cape Town with a safari?
Yes. Fly to the Kruger area for three or four nights, or choose a malaria-free reserve in the Eastern Cape if travelling with young children.
