South Africa puts a world-class city, a wine region, a coastal road trip and Big Five reserves in one country, linked by short domestic flights. It suits couples, families, safari travellers, food lovers and conference delegates in Cape Town or Johannesburg.
Kenyan passport holders can visit without a visa for up to 90 days, which removes a step from planning. The seasons pull in different directions — the Cape is best in summer, Kruger in winter — so we plan the order of your trip around your dates.

Getting there
Kenya Airways and Airlink fly Nairobi to Johannesburg direct in about 4 hrs 15 min. Kenya Airways also flies to Cape Town on selected days.
Getting around
Short domestic flights link Johannesburg, Cape Town and airports near Kruger. Car hire suits the Garden Route; South Africa drives on the left.
Money
South African rand (ZAR). Cards are widely accepted. Tipping is customary in restaurants and for guides and drivers.
Entry requirements
Kenyan passport holders can stay up to 90 days without a visa. Other nationalities vary. Your passport needs at least two blank pages.
Luggage
Domestic flights follow normal allowances. Light-aircraft transfers to private reserves have lower limits, usually around 20 kg in soft bags.
Health
Kruger and the lowveld are in a malaria area; Cape Town, the Winelands and the Garden Route are not. Ask a travel clinic before you go.
