Overview
Dubai Creek divides Deira from Bur Dubai and was the centre of the city long before the towers went up. Traders still load dhows along its banks, and the souks, museums and restored lanes nearby make it the best place to see how Dubai began. It suits first-time visitors, shoppers and travellers looking for good-value hotels close to the airport.
Most visitors spend half a day here, but Deira and Bur Dubai also work as a base for short and business stays. Hotels are generally cheaper than in Downtown or on the beach, and Dubai International is close by.

Dubai Creek and Deira: good to know
How much time do I need?
Half a day covers the abra, the souks and Al Fahidi. Stay a night or two if you want a value base close to the airport.
Is it close to the airport?
Yes. Deira and Bur Dubai are about 10–20 minutes by road from DXB, depending on traffic.
When is the best time to visit?
November to March, when it is cool enough to walk. In summer, go early in the morning or in the evening.
Do I need a visa?
Most Kenyan passport holders need a UAE visa arranged before travel. Since 25 June 2026, Kenyans with a valid residence permit from the US, UK, an EU country or several others can get a visa on arrival. We check your eligibility before booking.
Can I combine it with Downtown and the beach?
Yes. Most travellers visit the Creek for a day and stay in Downtown or the Marina; others base themselves here and travel out.
