Overview
A three-day road safari from Nairobi to Amboseli National Park, known for its large elephant herds and its views of Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. It suits first-time safari travellers, families and anyone with a long weekend.
Amboseli is smaller and flatter than the Mara, so two days cover it well. Kilimanjaro is often hidden by cloud; early mornings and late afternoons in the dry months give the best chance of a clear view, and we plan drives around those windows — but no view can be promised.
Itinerary
Day 01Nairobi → Amboseli
- Morning pick-up in Nairobi.
- Drive south-east via Emali, about four hours depending on traffic and the gate you use.
- Check in for lunch.
- Afternoon game drive in the park.
- Dinner and overnight.

Day 02Full day in Amboseli
- Early-morning game drive, when Kilimanjaro is most often visible.
- Breakfast back at the lodge or camp.
- Late-morning drive around the swamps, where elephants, buffalo and hippos feed.
- A stop at Observation Hill for a view over the swamps and plains, where the itinerary allows.
- Optional Maasai community visit, booked in advance.
- Afternoon game drive, dinner and overnight.

Day 03Amboseli → Nairobi
- Short early-morning game drive.
- Breakfast and check-out.
- Drive back to Nairobi, arriving in the afternoon.

Want more time?
4 days / 3 nights: a second full day in Amboseli, or one night in Amboseli and one in Tsavo West.
Safari and beach: continue to Diani and the coast, or combine with the Maasai Mara.
Times vary with traffic, road conditions and where you stay. Please don’t book a same-day international departure on day 3 without talking to us first.

Swamps and Observation Hill
The spring-fed swamps draw elephants through the day. Observation Hill gives a view over the whole area.
Maasai community visit

Add a night in Tsavo West or the Chyulu Hills for volcanic landscapes and a different kind of safari.

Amboseli: good to know
Is three days enough for Amboseli?
Yes. The park is compact, and two nights give three or four game drives. Add a night for Tsavo West or a slower pace.
How do I get there?
By road from Nairobi in about four hours, or on a scheduled flight from Wilson Airport.
Will I see Kilimanjaro?
Often, but not always. The mountain is clearest early in the morning and late in the afternoon, especially in the dry months.
When is the best time to go?
June to October and January to February are driest. Game viewing is good all year.
Can I combine Amboseli with another destination?
Yes — with the Maasai Mara, Tsavo West or the coast at Diani. We arrange the connections.
